Do I need help?

To answer this question, ask yourself if you would like to change the way you respond to things that happen in your life, if you’re finding it difficult to let go of things that have happened in the past or want to learn from them, or simply understand what has made you who you are today.

I have worked in mental health services for many many years and see how people often look for answers through diagnoses. For some, it helps to have a biological reason for what they are experiencing but for others, developing an understanding of social and psychological aspects too can give a holistic view of life and experiences that makes us who we are today.

To help to know if I can help with your specific difficulties, here are a list of common difficulties:

Anxiety, panic attacks

Low mood

Depression

Stress

OCD

PTSD

Attachment issues

Complex trauma

How I can help

Seeking help in order to make changes will require you to connect with things that might usually cause some distress and discomfort. Being able to do this with someone you feel at ease with and trust is important.  So make sure you chose someone who you feel matches your values.

Within the first assessment session with me, as well as gaining details from you to help build a picture of what you are hoping to gain from therapy, this session is also important to get a feel for me as a person and psychologist and decide if you too wish to work with me. I encourage openness and honesty and will not take any offence if you prefer to seek out another psychologist/therapist.
